Would you like to further develop your skills and abilities and be involved in a community setting?
New Leaf Enterprises is a comprehensive workplace training program for eligible persons with physical disabilities. Trainees work on life, social, and employment skills enabling them to gain independence and community involvement.
Our training centre is made up of the following programs:
- Mailing Services Program - to learn basic skills in mailing and contract work
- Lunchroom Program - to learn basic skills necessary for a community lunchroom/canteen setting
- Catering Services Program - to learn production skills in the preparation of catering orders
- Business Skills Program - to learn basic office/computer skills
- Workplace Basic Skills Program – to learn the skills and work habits necessary for successful employment.
Personal Development Day Program
New Leaf Enterprises works with adults with physical disabilities on developing job skills in a collaborative social setting. Trainees acquire skills and knowledge in a business environment through a task analysis approach, practical exercises, and hands-on experiences through working in the centre’s catering and business services offered to the public.
These training programs encourage valuable skill development to enable adults with physical disabilities more opportunity for employment within the community.
Our mission at New Leaf is to enable Nova Scotians with physical disabilities to enhance their quality of life by realizing their individual potential.
Catering Services & Cafes
New Leaf Catering offers a wide selection of delicious home-baked goods for your luncheons, meetings, parties and other special events.
Everything is made using the finest ingredients and the greatest of care. Our product selection includes:
- Variety of trays including vegetable, fruit, cheese, meat, sweets
- Hot Entrees
- Salads
- Sandwiches, wraps, bagels, rolls
- Baked goods
- Beverages

Additional Information
- 24 hours notice required for telephone catering order.
- Cancellation notice must be 24 hours. Less than 24 hours and the customer may be charged.
- In the event of inclement weather, the staff person will contact the customer with regards to status of order.
- Menu Prices do NOT include 15% HST
- Delivery charges: City of Halifax $7.00, Dartmouth $8.50, Beyond city limits but within HRM $10.00
Service Area
At the present time our Catering Services are only available in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
New Leaf Cafés
New Leaf Cafes can be found at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre (1341 Summer St.), at O’Regan’s Toyota and O’Regan’s Nissan dealerships in Halifax. Our newest New Leaf Café opened December 2009 at Parkstone Enhanced Care (156 Parkland Dr., Halifax). Please visit our blog for information about our Grand Opening!
New Leaf Cafes provide job training to people with physical disabilities in all capacities of its operations. An adaptable and flexible work setting is created that allows participants to develop new skills
and relationships. New Leaf Cafes are known for their high quality homemade food and excellent customer service.

We specialize in small volumes and offer services for other types of customized contracts for which services may be limited.

Materials can be couriered to us from any location, but our clients tend to be from the Maritime Provinces.

Admission Process
How to Apply/Admission Process
The person applying to the Program must have the primary diagnosis of a physical disability. This may be a single challenge or multiple challenges.
The applicant’s primary barrier to employment must be classified as a physical challenge that presents as a vocational limitation.
- Contact the Program Coordinator for Referral/Request Information. This will include:
- Information package about New Leaf
- Admissions application form
- Medical Form
- Complete Application Form
- Application is reviewed
- You will be contacted to arrange an interview. This includes:
- Tour of New Leaf
- An Interview
Assessment
The applicant attends New Leaf for a minimum period of three weeks for an assessment. Assessments are carried out in each program area to determine skill levels.
- A Report goes to the Trainee Admission and Review Committee
- The assessment information is summarized
- Recommendations are made to the Committee by the Program Coordinator and/or Executive Director
- The Committee reviews the summary and recommendations.
- The applicant's status is determined
- Applicant informed of their application status
