Easter Seals Nova Scotia made a commitment to their campers and clients in October 2009 to raise $200,000 towards revitalizing Camp Tidnish to meet the growing needs of the campers.

 Due to the generous donations from the Corporations, Foundations, and Service Clubs listed below we have raised $93,200 and have made many necessary improvements at camp including: the re-painting of all cabins and main lodge, new mattresses, bedding and linens for all cabins, new flooring, new chairs, a couch, bean bag chairs and a big screen TV for the common areas, as well as an abundance of craft supplies, games and ipod docs.

Says a camper about this year’s improvements:  “I would like to thank all the individuals who came together and helped with all the improvements this summer. The Beehive had a lot more to offer this year, which was great, like bowling table, air hockey, beanbag chairs, furniture and the Wii.”

Easter Seals Nova Scotia will continue to fundraise and implement improvements at Camp Tidnish until Spring 2011 with the goals of replacing wooden ramps, windows, beds, and equipment for new program areas (including music & drama program and animal therapy program).

About Camp Tidnish

Since 1958, Camp Tidnish has been providing Nova Scotians with disabilities a unique, fun, safe and rewarding camp experience. Each summer up to 300 campers stay at the fully accessible camp to enjoy a summer vacation filled with excitement, games, and laughter. Campers will often come home having learned new skills, developed greater self-confidence, made new friends, and achieved greater independence through their experiences at camp.

The program is structured for those participants who would like to have fun on the ice while learning to use a sledge; a specialized sled designed for inclusive on-ice activities.  This pilot program is a partnership between Easter Seals Nova Scotia, IWK Recreation Therapy, Hockey Nova Scotia and HRM Recreation.

The role of the volunteer encompasses:

• Assist children once they are on their sleds
• Follow instructions from Assistants and Coordinators
• Be able to ice skate and bring own skates to the sessions
• Need to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet
• Have completed the Child Abuse Registry, Criminal Records Check ($25 fee unless one has recently been done) and Volunteer Information Sheet

Individuals who have a background in therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, kinesiology, sledge hockey experience or recreational program experience and would like to volunteer for this fun program are invited to call or email Stephanie at Easter Seals Nova Scotia 902-453-6000, x220 or stephanieg@easterseals.ns.ca.

Race starts at 10am and ends at 2pm. BBQ and Awards 2-3pm

Where: Start and Finish of race is at Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s office at 3670 Kempt Rd, Halifax, NS B3K 4X8; Race is across HRM.

Cost: $500 registration fee to enter per team of up to 4 people. Individuals can enter for a fee of $125 each and be assigned a team.  Register in advance and fundraise to meet the registration amount.

Description: High-tech treasure hunt with awesome prizes!
Participants will follow clues and coordinates to seek caches (treasures) hidden throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality. Each cache will have a point number assigned to it depending upon the level of difficulty. Teams won’t have time to visit all the caches, so they will have to be strategic!

Grand Prize is 4 tickets anywhere WestJet flys awarded to the team collecting the most points within the allotted time.

Participants in Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s ZIP ZONE are stepping out of their comfort zones – preparing to make the climb and RAPPEL the MACDONALD BRIDGE on **SUNDAY OCTOBER 3** (Rain Date in effect).

Each rappeller must raise a minimum of $3000 that directly fund Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s programs for children, youth and adults with physical disabilities including camp experiences, job skills training, and providing mobility equipment.

Join in and cheer on our superheros from the pedestrian sidewalk and parking area just south of the Dartmouth toll of the Macdonald Bridge on SUNDAY OCTOBER 3  from 9am to 4:30pm. Don’t forget to look up!

Participants in Easter Seals’s Drop Zone are currently dusting off their superhero outfits in preparation for their rappel of 23 storeys down the side of 1801 Hollis St office tower.  Its 7th year in Halifax, the Easter Seals Drop Zone is an exciting fund raising event of Easter Seals Nova Scotia, in support of Nova Scotians with physical disbilities.

Participants challenge themselves to overcome their own fears and change the lives of Nova Scotians living with physical disabilities by raising at least $1,500 each.  Join in and cheer on these local heros at Hollis and Duke Streets on SATURDAY SEPT 18th from 9am to 2pm. Don’t forget to look up!
